OFFICIAL STATEMENT

We can officially confirm that the work carried out at Station Approach on Sunday September 28 was not done by Sydenham Gardeners.

At Sydenham Gardeners we are planning for a long term effect and are working with local organisations to make this possible. We commend the work done by this new Guerilla group and hope that their work doesn’t effect the work that we have already done in our attempt to secure long term funding for a continued display of colour and scent throughout Sydenham for years to come.

Following an enthusictic turn out at The Dolphin this evening it was decided that the group should go forward under the banner of SYDENHAM GARDENERS. There was a discussion about what type of plants to grow and it was generally felt that colour and scent should be the first priorities.

A location was decided upon for the first ‘dig’ and a date/time was arranged. Due to the nature of this work the exact time/location/date will be kept ‘top secret’ until after the ‘dig’ has been completed. If you wish to lend a hand on the dig you will have to email us directly at sydenhamgardeners@hotmail.co.uk putting DIG 1 in the subject box to receive the dig information.

Signs will also be visible in the areas once the group have done their magic. It will state the name of the group and the website address.

There was also a discussion about the ‘Adopt-a-Station’ scheme for Sydenham Railway Station of which an official of the group has already made enquiries with Southern Railways who have respondly in favour of the scheme. An update on this will be made at the next meeting.

The meeting commenced at 8pm and ended at 9:25pm.

FIRST MEETING

Thanks for your interest. The first meeting will be held on Monday September 15 at The Dolphin Pub, Sydenham, it’s on the high street for those who don’t know. It will start at 8pm and you can find us sitting at the table with the lavendar on, just follow the scent.

This first meeting/gathering is to decide if there is interest, which areas can be identified, what plants we need (we already have spring bulbs and a donation of £100 towards plants), a good time to act out our first plan and when it should take place.

Station Approach

Station Approach

I personally think we should start off small and work with the area at Sydenham railway station on Station Approach. It is to the left of the toilets and at the moment has very large overgrown bushes. The bed isn’t that deep in depth but I think it would be a good start to kick us off.
Another suggestion from other groups is that each member donated two pot plants – just something to think about.

See you Monday.

LOCATIONS

First job would be to list possible places around Sydenham that can be targeted. What can you think of?
